The DC METRO

College Park Station escalator to the platform.

You might be wondering how we’ve been faring with the DC METRO. Maybe not, in which case skip this entry!

Our campground, Cherry Hill, is about a 3 mile drive to the METRO station where we park the truck for $4.25 a day weekdays and free on weekends. Trains arrive very frequently. We haven’t had to wait more 15 minutes, and generally a much shorter time.

Once you figure out the Green, Red, Blue, Yellow and Orange lines on the map and make a run a few times, you find out it’s quite simple, a great way to get around and you don’t have to park in the city.

Stops are well placed to reach most of the “tourist spots” with a minimum of walking and with the half-price senior fare, it’s the only way to go. Bring your lunch, visit the many free museums and landmarks, and enjoy some very inexpensive travel.

Escalator down into the METRO and up to daylight.

A typical platform where two lines cross one over the other.
