Anastasia State Park

Shadows following us.

On our last day in St. Augustine, having exhausted our time and energy on our trolley tours, we went off on our own to St. Augustine Beach to the Lighthouse, and then to the splendid Anastasia State Park.

Looking south toward the fishing pier.

Its beach has the classic fine powdery sand Florida is known for that stretches into long, low-tide shallows patrolled by sea birds, and overseen by a huge, preening pelican.

The park has 16 miles of beach, biking trails, and a campground–a definite stopover for our next visit.
